By the 16 century, the Julian calendar was off the solar calendar by 10 days. So in Pope Gregory introduced a new calendar.
Under the Gregorian calendar the winter solstice is on December However, Christmas was already established and no one thought to switch it to the new date of the solstice. If anything, they were glad that unsavory connection had been severed. But changing the calendar did not change the historically pagan origins of Christianity. I believe this article is referencing Roman Catholicism which has its roots in paganism.
There are many ways one can tell the difference but a couple of the main ones are that almost every other religion is polytheistic while Christianity was the first monotheistic religion in history, " thou shalt have no other gods before me. Another way to distinguish paganism from Christianity is any religion who worships a father god, mother god and a son of god. Many religions have this same pattern but it all stems from the bloodline of Ham, a son of Noah. Ham gave birth to Cush, who was disobedient to the God of Noah. Cush, after bringing others under his rule in opposition to God, is the one who started construction of the tower of Babel, if you read the bible, you understand how that ended for them.
The roots of paganism start with him. Nimrod started the first world government where the people all followed one religion and were governed under him. He was worshipped as a god because he outright disobeyed God. If you study the occult, bloodlines are important and it always leads back to Nimrod. However Nimrod was killed by his grandfather Shem, another son of Noah, to show his followers that he was not a god and that they should follow the one true god of Noah. With Nimrod dead, his followers didnt know what to do. Their answer though came from a woman, the first wife of Cush in fact.
Her name was Semiramis, she was also the Mother of Nimrod. She told everyone she was divinely born to gain power over the people. When Cush was killed by Shem, like Nimrod would be, to stay in power Semiramis married her son Nimrod. After Nimrod was killed though she had become pregnant and in order to stay in power she told the people that it was the spirit of Nimrod that impregnated her, thus claiming to fulfill the virgin birth prophesy of Jesus in Genesis This was the start of father god and mother god worship.
She also convinced her followers that Nimrod did not die, but in fact ascended to the sun and that the suns rays are what impregnated her. Nimrod was further known as Baal, the Sun-god.
She also convinced those who followed her that she was divinely created and that she had traveled from the moon to the Euphrates in an egg and thus she became known as the moon-goddess, also known as Ishtar; also pronounced Easter. Her moon egg became known as Ishtar's egg and where we get modern day Easter tradition from. Her son, who was dubbed the son of God, was named Tammuz and was believed to be the sun-god reborn. He was born on the winter solstice. The Madonna portraits are derived from the mother god holding the son of god.
Tammuz was killed by a wild pig and Semiramis, or Ishtar, said that he ascended to the sun as well and was reunited with his father. This is where the origin of the polytheism and paganism come from, these people channelled spirits and made human sacrifices but because of Shem's watch and constant defeat by God, they no longer did their rituals in public, but in the dark only revealing it to those who are worthy; the high priest and priestesses. This is the beginning of the mystery religion of Babylon which spread to Egypt, Persia, Greece, and Rome.
Their names differ between cultures but they all represent the same people. Roman Catholicism is where trouble in Christianity sprouts, however when studied Roman Catholicism is polytheistic because they worship the virgin mary thus not making it Christianity, but paganism.
Any religion with a masculine and feminine god is a pagan religion. There were many other gods in these belief systems but these three are at the top of the hierarchy. Israelites were the only people to challenge this belief system stating that there is only one true God.
Astrology: Between Religion and the Empirical
At this point the battle between monotheism and polytheism became in full effect. Another similarity in paganism is that all these sun-gods and moon-goddesses were born from one father god who claims to be the creator and the one who holds light and knowledge. He goes by many different names, Baal, ra, zues, Jupiter, insta, molech, but they all stand for one person..
Satan is depicted to have both masculine and feminine properties, the one true God does not. All these religions strive to accomplish one thing, rebellion against God. This is why the new world order is being pushed on civilization making way for the antichrist, or the sun-god reborn. Be blessed and please be vigilant to this.
It's all in plain sight, find out for yourselves.. Hi Rhonda - well written Hub. However, there is much incorrect information. Not on your part, I'm sure. It is more due to the amount of 'mis-information' there is out there in the world. The truth about the stars, star signs and the Zodiac can be found in a book called "Sting of the Scorpion" by Jonathan Gray.
Let me know if you are interested and I can get you a free electronic version ; Also, you mention that the promise of a messiah and the worship of 'Chrishna' dates back years before Christ. However, this does not contradict the Bible, as the promise of a Messiah dates back to the creation, which was years before Christ and 'false-worship' started long before Christ as well. But the main idea is to start with the truth. Read the book I've mentioned, then go from there : Thanks and have a great day! Yes, I've gotten my share of flack.
Danger of astrology
I welcome it because it betrays what their beliefs are based on, or rather not based on. I was a Christian for 25 years and I know that nothing I am saying now could have shaken my faith during the time I had an emotional need for it.
But you know, things tend to accumulate and the last straw is not necessarily the heaviest straw. That slowly increasing sense of cognitive dissonance came to a head at a time when I was ready to be emotionally free. So here I am. I'm not out to convince anyone to let go of their life raft if they are not ready to do so.
Neither will I let the Church have the microphone all to themselves. Now you know, you were gonna get flak from those who've been fed on belief so long, that they can't stand the taste of truth, because it tastes to bitter the bitter truth. Their beliefs are like a life raft that they hang on to for dear life, to keep themselves from falling into, the deep waters of the ocean of truth.
Larry, my hub is not a duplicate. Of course, you will find the information elsewhere, for I did not make it up. Are you trying to say that the Catholic Church originated the immaculate conception concept? In the Bible, when Jesus called himself the son of God and the Jews interpreted this as claiming equality with God, Jesus quoted the Psalm "Is it not written in your law, 'Have I not said, you are gods. You are all children of the Most High.
If this were not so, he would not have answered with that quote. I will not look up the chapter and verse because I have done so before, yet you continue to ignore what the Bible says in favor of what the Church says. You did a lot of work, I am not sure why and some considerable cutting and pasting, because there are duplications. The doctrine of immaculate conception is a doctrine established by the Catholic Church that Mary was conceived without the stain of original sin.
The term immaculate conception does not apply to Jesus but is often misused. The conception of Jesus was divine. Here is the official church language first paragraph only regarding the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception. In the Constitution Ineffabilis Deus of 8 December, , Pius IX pronounced and defined that the Blessed Virgin Mary "in the first instance of her conception, by a singular privilege and grace granted by God, in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the human race, was preserved exempt from all stain of original sin. The Son of God was Jesus, who walked the earth as a Human and not as a ball of burning gases, who was crucified and made the promise of everlasting life to all who believed in him.
It is just a fun thing for children. The Easter Egg can represent the beginning of life. There are other faults in your Hub, but your immaculate conception comment discredit anything you might say, since that term is not used in the Bible to refer to the Birth of Jesus. It is not accepted by many other Christian faiths because they misunderstand it the same way you did.
You can believe in your false gods if you want and try to rewrite scriptures to support your claims, but you are just wrong. As far as the cold winters night, well it does it cold in the desert at night. There probably was no snow. Snow added to pictures and songs are done by people and are not mentioned in the scriptures.
The Christian church had a lot to overcome during its early days. There was confusion. But Jesus was the Son of God--no question and the Immaculate Conception had nothing to do with your false gods. Other product and company names shown may be trademarks of their respective owners.

Games, Toys, and Hobbies. Claim : Mithras sacrificed himself for world peace Truth : There is little or no evidence this is true, although there is a story about Mithras slaying a threatening bull in a heroic deed. Claim : Mithras was buried in a tomb and after three days rose again, and Mithras was celebrated each year at the time of His resurrection later to become Easter Truth : There is nothing in the Mithraic tradition indicating he ever even died, let alone resurrected. Tertullian did write about Mithraic believers re-enacting resurrection scenes, but he wrote about this occurring well after New Testament times.
Christianity could not, therefore, have borrowed from Mithraic traditions, but the opposite could certainly be true. But once again, all of this evidence is actually post New Testament; Mithraic believers may once again have borrowed this attribute from Christianity. But this term was used in a very different from how Christians used the term.
Mithras was not the mediator between God and man but the mediator between the good and evil gods of Zoroaster. Once again, it is more likely to have been borrowed from Christianity than the other way around. The first step in refuting such claims is to simply investigate the attributes carefully. Beyond this, we must also recognize the expectations and yearnings people have related to the existence of God. Many alleged similarities between pre-Christian mythologies and Jesus are extremely general in nature and would be expected from anyone considering the existence of a Divine Creator.
These universal expectations fail to invalidate the historicity of Jesus. In the end, similarities between Jesus and mythological precursors fail to invalidate the historicity of Jesus. The historical veracity of Jesus is determined from the evidence supporting the reliability of the eyewitness accounts.

Jesus is not simply a retelling of Mithraic mythology. While Mithras is no longer worshiped, Christianity continues to thrive. Because the Christian records are reliable. But the reliable Biblical record establishes the Deity of Jesus in a way no other ancient mythological text could ever hope to achieve. This book teaches readers ten principles of cold-case investigations and applies these strategies to investigate the claims of the gospel authors.
